The generous doctor donated the KSh 100 million to the hospital to establish a research fund in honour of his wife which will support research efforts at Henry Ford Hospital's Heart and Vascular Institute.
O'Neil stated that he agreed with his family that they will help in the mission because it was one of the many that distressed his wife Carol the most when she was dying.
'Carol when she was dying, the thing that distressed her most. was that she said she did not want to be forgotten. My family and I agreed that it would be really fitting to honour her, by continuing her legacy by continuing to do research on patients who have heart disease. Now we won't forget her, but the fund will allow her to continue - so that's going to be a legacy for her.' Dr O'Neil said.
